Ioannidis “Instrumental” in Bringing Big Music Fest to Kitchener
KITCHENER – The summer music festival that has Kitchener residents talking might not have happened in our community if it wasn't for the intervention of City Councillor Bil Ioannidis. “Bil has been instrumental in bringing Big Music Feast to Kitchener”, said the festivals organizer Mark Higgins.
When Higgins approached local businessman Paul Haslam about bringing the festival to Southern Ontario, Paul suggested that he speak with Bil Ioannidis. Ioannidis worked with Higgins to find a site for the event and helped Higgins work with the city to ensure that the event would have a minimal impact on local residents and benefit the community.
Speaking with residents last week, Ioannidis praised Big Music Fest as a great economic opportunity that will create local jobs and provide a venue for residents and visitors alike to enjoy all the great amenities Kitchener has to offer. Paul Haslam praised the event, saying Big Music Fest will bring “more wages in the community and put Kitchener on the map”. The event is expected to generate five to ten million dollars in economic activity this summer.
Asked if he would like to see more events like Big Music Fest come to Kitchener, Ioannidis said “it's my job to ensure we have great things happening in our community. Big Music Fest is one of those great things and I'll continue to work to attract world class events to our world class city”.
Big Music Fest will be held in McLennan Park July 11-14 with headliners Areosmith and Bryan Adams topping a list of international stars scheduled to perform.
